When a pirate wielding stolen magic captures 20-year-old mage Thea, she fights back, ripping the pirate’s magic away and absorbing it. She also takes a few of the pirate’s memories, including a recent memory of a pirate army preparing to attack her home, the mages’ tower.

 

Desperate to escape the pirates, Thea forms an uneasy allegiance with Fyn, a fierce warrior from the hostile neighboring country. Fyn is frustrating and arrogant, but Thea needs help too much to be picky about who it comes from.
